Daily Update: 07/10/2008

I know I've mentioned this in the past, but Paul DePodesta, assistant GM of the Padres, has his own team sponsored blog. It's a really good read and he allows approved comments. It's nice to see a ball club that will interact with the fans.

Daily Rumors from MLB Trade Rumors
- Chicago was the only team discussing Rich Harden with the A's; one expect was reminded of the Mark Mulder trade.
- Chad Gaudin was added to the deal as insurance for Harden.
- The Twins have had internal discussion about going after Adrian Beltre.
- Toronto may be at the point of throwing in the towel, but Dustin McGowan's injury may make it difficult to deal a pitcher.
- The Phillies, Dodgers, and Cardinals have been linked to AJ Burnett.
- Philadelphia may be the most interested in Erik Bedard; it's noted that there could be a conflict of interest if GM Pat Gillick is planning on moving back to the Ms in an executive position.
- The Tigers have signed first round pick Ryan Perry; he is expected to get a September call up.
- Ranger minor leaguer Nelson Cruz is drawing interest from teams; he's compared to Jack Cust, who found MLB success after many years in the minors.
- Adam Dunn has not been made available yet.
- A trade of Aaron Harang is very unlikely, especially since he just went down with an injury.
- The Reds have been receiving more calls since the CC Sabathia trade; interest is high in David Weathers and Dave Ross.
- David Ortiz took batting practice and didn't feel pain; this kills the rumor that the Sox are still interested in Barry Bonds.
- Brian Fuentes is still on the Red Sox radar; the Rays are still the front runners.
- Brett Myers and the Phillies have shot down rumors that he wants to be traded.
- Braves minor leaguer Chris Resop had his contract sold to the Hanshin Tigers in Japan.
- The Mets are willing to eat some contracts to lower the quality of prospects they'd have to deal.
- Randy Wolf likes pitching in San Diego and is interested in re-signing there next year; he has a limited no trade clause which may block most mid-west teams.
- The Diamondbacks have had internal discussions about Barry Bonds; his agent hasn't been called though.
- Teams have called the Royals about Jose Guillen, but he's not available.
- Shortstops may be the hot players in the offseason.
- Toronto offered AJ Burnett to Milwaukee for JJ Hardy, but was shot down (this was before the CC deal).
- Apparently the Dodgers could have gotten CC Sabathia, Casey Blake, and Jamey Carroll without including Matt Kemp in the deal; some say owner Frank McCourt killed the deal and the Dodgers have been difficult to deal with this year.
